从石英晶体上切下平行六面体----晶体切片,使它的晶面分别平行于X,Y,Z轴.当晶体受到X方向压缩应力T1-N/m2作用时,晶片将产生厚度变形,在垂直于X方向上产生的电荷密度与应力成正比.

当未受到力作用时,正负离子硅与氧正好分布在正六边形的顶角上,形成3个大小相等、互成120度的电偶矩P1,P2,P3.P=ql,q为电荷量,l为正负电荷之间距离.进口晶振电偶极矩方向为负电荷指向正电荷.此时正负电荷中心重合,电偶极矩的矢量和等于零.这时晶体表面不产生电荷,石英晶体从整体上是呈电中性的.
